Wedding Planning Terms:
There are many levels of service as a wedding planner/Consultant/Coordinator. Some members of the Association of Bridal Consultants only Coordinate, some may only Consult or Plan Full service. Different package options are different for each member. These are some helpful terms to standardize within the business that we work.
Coordination:
Event Management, Implementation, Keeping everyone on the same “page”, (Formerly known as “Day Of” service). This often includes vendor final confirmations, timeline development, and wedding/event weekend overall management. For most wedding/event Coordinators, there is at least a 20-30 hour (in addition to the wedding day)commitment to the success of the event. Not just the 5, 10, or 18+ hours on the wedding weekend.
Consultation:
Expertise, Advice, Vendor Recommendations, Budget Review, Research and information given based on a consultant’s expert & educated knowledge. There are many “individual” consultants- (i.e. Entertainment, Invitations, Etiquette, Floral, Lighting, Apparel, Transportation). But an overall “Wedding/Event Consultant” can offer valuable opinions on all of these matters and more.
Planning:
Often times referred to as “Full Service” Planning of an event is the consultation and coordination of every aspect of the wedding/event where the legwork is that of the planner and not of the client. Options are given to the client, choices are implemented by the planner, Vendors are hired (often times by the planner). A wedding/event Planner allows the client to attend to the duties most important in their lives, letting a professional planner implement their wedding/event plans for the entire engagement to honeymoon period in many instances.
“Day Of”:
Actual Wedding Day Only. No timeline. No advice, no expertise, no vendor confirmations. Just show up on the day of the wedding and help out as needed. This is more often a “church lady” or friend/relative that offers to assist with “Day Of”, not a professional coordinator/ consultant or planner.
